The project, in the scope of which 5 construction projects were designed – constructed with a purpose to create a modern and multifunctional bulk load terminal conforming to the global standards in the Baltic Sea region. JSC A.C.B carried out the coordination of the entire project, as the result of which the Riga City centre was freed from the bulk load operations degrading environment, transferring them to the Andrejsala and Eksportosta territories on the right bank of the Daugava River and to the left bank of the Daugava River – the Krievu sala.
The new terminal provides for delivery of bulk loads, including coal by railway, the unloading thereof in closed premises, reloading in the bulk load areas and further transportation by ships. The connecting tracks with an automatic control system, gantry crane lines and bulk load areas were constructed to ensure the terminal functions. The lessee of the terminal, the provider of stevedoring services LTD STREK, equipped the car roll-over station, supplied and installed the mobile technological equipment, ensuring loading of bulk loads in the ships.
In order to prevent the polluted rainwater and technological water getting into the Daugava River, the over-ground reinforced concrete drainage channels of 3.4 km were built, discharging the water polluted by the coal dust into the purifying equipment constructed in the scope of the project.
In care for compliance with the environmental protection requirements and life quality of the city neighbourhoods adjacent to the Krievu sala territory, a technology developed in Canada and for the first time used in Latvia, constructing the wind-absorbing fences around the bulk load areas, was applied. The wind fence function is to reduce the impact of the leading winds on coal stacking, not allowing the coal dust to raise in air and get into surrounding nature. Drilled and propelled reinforced concrete piles in the depth of 24-28m were constructed for the fence foundation. Painted, 23m long steel masts were used for the fence posts, transported both by road and also by sea.
In order to ensure the terminal functionality, the connecting access roads were constructed with the Riga city highway network and underground engineer communications.
Construction works were started in October 2017, the site was put into operation in December 2018, performing them according to established deadlines and even working slightly ahead of the schedule.
The performed work was awarded the 1st place in the competition The Best Structure of the Year in Latvia 2018 and GRAND PRIX of the competition Annual Construction Award of Latvia 2018.
Construction of the railway with automatic control of more than 10km.
Construction of the bulk load areas with asphalt concrete, concrete paving stone and concrete plate coverings in the volume of more than 100,000m2.
23m high wind-absorbing fences of 651m and 816m have been installed.
Construction of 475m long gantry cranes line.
Creation of the over-ground rain water drainage channels in the length of 3.4 km.
Construction of access roads with a top layer of asphalt concrete covering with an area of more than 7,000m2.
Construction of the underground engineering communications (rainwater sewerage, household sewerage, purifying equipment, gas supply networks, water pipes, electric cables, transformer substations and low-voltage electric cables) of more than 37 km.
